01Project Overview

A premium marketplace, rebuilt from first principles.

Craigslist remains widely used, yet its dated interface creates friction, limits trust, and blocks growth. This concept keeps its core strengths while unlocking a modern experience.

Problem
Outdated interface, weak visual hierarchy, minimal trust signals, no mobile-first thinking.
Solution
A search-first, trust-forward, AI-assisted marketplace with a curated component system.
Reasoning
Preserve breadth and simplicity users love — modernize surface, structure, and confidence.
Impact
Higher conversion, faster discovery, stronger trust, and a mobile-native path forward.
02Problem Statement

What breaks in the original experience.

A heuristic UX audit mapped where usability, trust and hierarchy quietly erode confidence — and where the redesign directly answers.

03Research

Heuristic evaluation grounded in UX best practices.

Not internal data — a structured evaluation of the current experience across strengths, issues, impact, and recommendations.

Strength

Simplicity & Speed

Minimal design loads quickly and enables fast task completion.

Strength

Information Density

A large volume of categories on one screen — both strength and liability.

Strength

Broad Reach

Location selector and nearby links support local discovery.

Strength

Familiarity

Long-standing users value the consistent, no-frills experience.

04Competitor Analysis

Benchmarked against the marketplaces users already trust.

A conceptual comparison across search, trust, visual design, navigation, accessibility, mobile and AI — mapping where the redesign leads and where it borrows.

05User Personas

Five people the marketplace has to serve.

Buyers, sellers, students, small-business owners and family shoppers — each with distinct trust thresholds and discovery habits.

06User Journey

From search to feedback — mapped end-to-end.

A six-stage journey identifying pain points, opportunities and specific UX improvements for each moment that matters.

07Information Architecture

A complete product structure, from home to help.

Eight top-level pillars, a persistent global navigation, and a detailed sitemap covering every meaningful page.

08Wireframes

Low → Mid → High fidelity, one deliberate step at a time.

Each screen evolved through three levels of resolution — structure first, hierarchy second, craft last.

09Design System

A quiet, disciplined foundation.

The visible product is only the surface. Underneath sits an enterprise-grade documentation set — the reason every screen feels consistent.

10Final Desktop Experience

Find anything. Right in your city.

A search-first home, prominent trust metrics, curated category shortcuts, and a persistent AI assistant — all in a calm, editorial layout.

11AI Features

Ask Aria — contextual help without leaving the page.

A persistent assistant that drafts listings, suggests smarter searches, and offers guidance exactly when it's needed.

Feature

Smart search

AI-assisted intent capture at the top of the funnel.

Feature

Listing drafts

Generate a first-pass listing from a few details.

Feature

Contextual help

Guidance appears inline — never a modal you fight.

12Mobile Experience

Mobile-first, from the search bar down.

Sticky search, fast performance, and an assistant that follows the user — designed to feel native on any device.

Sticky search. Persistent Aria. Zero friction.

Every core action stays within thumb reach. Trust cues remain visible. The AI assistant travels with the user across the entire journey.

13Before vs After

The distance between where it was — and where it could go.

14Reflection

Lessons learned & what's next.

Lessons Learned
  • — Familiarity is a feature. Modernize the surface, protect the muscle memory.
  • — Trust is designed, not declared. Verification cues do more than any hero copy.
  • — AI works best as a quiet companion, not the main character.
  • — A system-level foundation makes every downstream decision easier.
Future Improvements
  • — Native side-by-side comparison drawer across all categories.
  • — Integrated escrow-style checkout for high-value listings.
  • — Verified Seller tiering and scheduling for viewings.
  • — Post-transaction reviews with automated prompts and photo uploads.
